Research Evidence for Effectiveness

By 1994, eleven double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trials had been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of oral echinacea.

Only six of these received as much as a 50% score on a criteria-based evaluation for scientific rigor.

Unfortunately, most of the best designed studies used Resistan, an unusual proprietary echinacea formula consisting predominately of Echinacea angustifolia, but also containing other herbs and even homeopathic preparations.

Since 1994, several large and well-designed studies have evaluated single species preparations, yielding results that are more interpretable.

Outdoor Cycling
